Tour de France 2013, Stage 16: Route, TV schedule and more

Stage 16 of the 2013 Tour de France may not have the same grueling climb as Stage 15, but there will still be a lot of climbing ahead on Tuesday. Live coverage begins at 8 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.

The riders had a rest day on Monday in Vauclause following the brutal climb to Mont Ventoux on Sunday, so everyone's legs should be a little fresher. They'll need to be fresh, though, as the 168km stage from Vaison-la-Romaine to Gap includes two short but steep climbs, as well as a nearly 60km stretch of slow ascent between Chateauneuf-De-Chabre and La Roche-Des-Arnauds. It's a stage tailor-made for a breakaway.

Great Britain's Chris Froome enters Stage 16 with a 4-minute, 14-second lead over The Netherlands' Bauke Mollema. SB Nation's cycling blog, Podium Cafe, offers their pick to win on Tuesday:

I'm going with Arthur Vichot. Thomas Voeckler is too obvious, and was seen trying his luck yesterday. All the other French stage hopefuls will be parked on his wheel. When he goes, they go. When Vichot goes...?

Honduras vs. Trinidad and Tobago: Final score 0-2, Win sends Soca Warriors to quarters

Trinidad and Tobago is headed to the Gold Cup quarterfinals for only the second time in their history thanks to a 2-0 win over Honduras on Tuesday night. Goals by Kenwyne Jones and Kevin Molino fired the Soca Warriors to victory, which propelled them to second place in Group B and a spot in the knockout stages. Honduras had already clinched first place in the group.

The match turned in the 37th minute when Jose Velasquez hacked down Cornell Glen with an awful tackle from behind. The referee rightly showed Velasquez a red card for his dangerous challenge and Honduras had to play more than 50 minutes with 10 men.

Trinidad and Tobago had the upper hand even before they went up a man as Jones gave the Catrachos back line fits, but his finishing left plenty to be desired. Honduras wasn't taking the match especially serious, resting a few of their first choice players and it showed as the Soca Warriors dominated.

Once Velasquez was shown the door, Honduras never had a chance. The looks at goal kept coming for Trinidad and Tobago and when Orin Peralta shoved Glen in front of goal, the Soca Warriors got the goal they deserved. The referee whistled for a penalty and Jones buried the spot kick to put T&T in front.

Jones set up the Soca Warriors' second tally when he received a ball at the top of the box and beautifully played it in for Molino with his first touch. Molino, who was in along on goal, calmly slotted the ball home and Trinidad and Tobago was home free to a win and a rare spot in the Gold Cup quarterfinals.

Las Vegas Summer League: Kings' Ben McLemore still trying to find rhythm

The Sacramento Kings were thrilled that Ben McLemore, considered by some to be the best all-around player in the 2013 NBA Draft, fell into their laps at No. 7 when word was they would need to trade up to get him. They still should be, but his first two performances at the Las Vegas Summer League haven't been pretty, as it seems the talented 20-year-old might be trying to do just a tad too much.

In Game 1, a 76-73 loss to the Mavericks, McLemore took 23 shots and scored just 11 points, missing 10 of his 11 three-point attempts. In Game 2, an 80-66 loss to the Warriors, McLemore was improved, but still not efficient: 14 points on 12 shots, just 1-for-7 from three, with four turnovers and no assists. And the statline doesn't do the shoddy nature of the performance justice, according to those who were in Las Vegas. From SB Nation's Mike Prada:

Airballs! Bad turnovers! PANIC!

It's not shameful for McLemore to have some growing pains in Vegas. He's two games into something vaguely resembling NBA action, and he's being asked to carry the lion's share of his team's offense. The shooting will come: McLemore hit 42 percent of his threes in college, and although the line is further in the NBA, it's not further enough to cause a dropoff down to 11 percent. The one worrisome thing is that several, including Prada, report a Warriors defensive effort spearheaded by Kent Bazemore focused on sending McLemore to his left, and he looked uncomfortable trying to operate that way. But overall, there's no reason to overreact to two bad performances.

Besides, there's this:

If you're curious, second-round pick Ray McCallum looked quite fine for the Kings, leading all scorers with 23 points on just 10 shots to go along with six steals. Draymond Green and Bazemore carried the torch for Golden State, with 18 and 15 apiece.

Home Run Derby 2013 results: Yoenis Cespedes wins Derby with 9 homers in final round

Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes won the 2013 MLB Home Run Derby, defeating Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper 9-8 in the final round.

Harper, who hit 16 homers in the first two rounds, led off the final round. The 20-year-old, who was receiving pitches from his father Ron Harper, went deep on the first three swings of the final round. Harper finished the round with eight homers, his third straight round with exactly eight home runs.

Cespedes, who hit 23 homers in the first two rounds, stepped up to the plate after Harper. The outfielder smashed a line-drive homer on his first swing of the final round, and blasted his second homer of the round 411 feet on his third swing. The right-hander continued his power display, hitting his ninth homer with five outs to go.

The slugger becomes the second Oakland hitter to win the HR Derby; Mark McGwire was crowned champion in 1992. Cespedes is the fourth straight AL player to win the Derby; Prince Fielder was the last NL player to win the Derby as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009.

MLB Home Run Derby update: Yoenis Cespedes and Bryce Harper advance to final round

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 07:26 PM PDT

20130715_ajl_sr6_060

The final round of the 2013 Home Run Derby is set; Yoenis Cespedes and Bryce Harper will compete for the title.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who finished with seven homers in the first round, led off the second round. The 34-year-old nearly hit the truck for a second straight round, sending eight homers deep in the second. Cuddyer finished with 15 total home runs.

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis followed Cuddyer. Davis, who tied Reggie Jackon for the most home runs hit by an AL player before the All-Star break with 37, only hit four homers in the second round. The slugger finished with 12 total home runs.

Harper, who hit eight homers in the first round, stepped to the plate after Davis. The Washington Nationals outfielder hit eight homers in the second round, his final home run coming with two outs left. Harper finished with 16 homers, one ahead of Cuddyer.

Cespedes, who hit 17 homers in the first round, had already qualified for the final round when he chose to swing in the second. The Oakland Athletics outfielder hit a homer on his first swing in the second round, and finished the round with six homers, including one that bounced off the Chevrolet in center field.
