2013 British Open: Leaderboard, live coverage and results from Sunday's final round at Muirfield

Lee Westwood has a two-stroke lead heading into the final round of the 2013 Open Championship. Tiger Woods and Hunter Mahan are lurking two strokes off the lead.

Lee Westwood continued to putt as well as anyone in the field on Saturday. Hhis flat stick propelled him into the 54-hole lead at the British Open. Westwood is 3-under heading into Sunday, two strokes ahead of Tiger Woods and Hunter Mahan.

Westwood one was of a few players to finish Saturday under par and his putter was a big reason why. It began early, when after hitting driver-driver, Westwood sunk a long eagle putt from off the green at No. 5. With the eagle, he moved to 3-under and into the lead for the first time on Saturday.

Westwood and Woods were tied for the lead on-and-off during the back nine, but Westwood made another run over the closing stretch and a birdie at No. 14 put him back on top. He was in trouble at No. 16, but was able to salvage a bogey by sinking a long putt. He made another long putt on 17, this time for birdie, to take a two-stroke lead.

While Westwood had success on the greens, Woods had some issues coming in. His 1-over 72 was far from a bad round, but he missed several opportunities. Woods missed birdie on No. 16 by a fraction. He missed a par putt on the 17th to drop two back and was unable to get his birdie putt close on the 18.

Woods remains in contention, but he'll have to do something he's never done before if he's going to win on Sunday. Westwood and Hunter Mahan will play in the final group on Sunday with Woods in the second-to-last pairing. According to Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, Woods is 14-1 in majors when leading or in a share of the lead heading into the final round. Woods has never won a major when not at least in a share of the lead after 54 holes, going 0-for-47 in his career.

Mahan moved into red figures on Saturday, shooting a 3-under 68 -- tied for the best round of the lead. He'll tee off in the final pairing on Sunday, just as he did at last month's U.S. Open. Mahan faltered down the stretch at Merion, but will have a chance to win his first major at Muirfield.

A year after losing the British Open late, Adam Scott is in contention once again. He shot a 70 in the third round and will open the final round three strokes off the lead. Zach Johnson at 1-over, Phil Mickelson at 2-over and Sergio Garcia at 3-over are among the notable names within range.

Here is a complete look at the leaderboard through three rounds.

2013 British Open: TV coverage and schedule for Sunday's final round

With Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods, Hunter Mahan, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson among the players in contention, the final round of the British Open shouldn't lack intrigue. ESPN will broadcast that final round intrigue live from Muirfield, with coverage scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. ET.

The television broadcast will run until 1:30 p.m., allowing viewers to watch the entire final round of players in contention. The contenders don't begin teeing off until after 7 a.m., though, while the final groups will tee-off around 9 a.m. Tiger Woods, who begins the round two strokes off the lead, will play with Adam Scott on Sunday. The two will tee off at 9 a.m., 10 minutes ahead of third-round leader Lee Westwood.

In addition to the television coverage, there will also be extensive coverage online at ESPN3. It will begin at 5 a.m. with @TheOpen Live, a preview show leading into the live broadcast. There will also be Spanish and international streams on ESPN3. The online coverage includes one stream dedicated to the No. 1 and No. 18 holes, and another following players on holes No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9 as they prepare to make the turn.

Radio coverage will be available on ESPN Radio beginning at 8 a.m. and it will run until someone comes away with the Claret Jug. Here is a complete look at Sunday's coverage:

Muirfield has gotten the better of the field during the first three rounds of the Open Championship, but someone will take home the Claret Jug on Sunday regardless of the final score. Viewers will have multiple options to watch the final round online.

ESPN3 will once again provide online coverage, with five streams available. Live coverage won't begin until 6 a.m. ET, but ESPN3's coverage will kick-off an hour earlier with @TheOpen Live at 5 a.m. Following the preview show, the online service will provide five streams, including a simulcast of the ESPN broadcast. Viewers who prefer to watch individual holes instead of the general coverage will be in luck. ESPN3 will have a stream dedicated to holes No. 1 and No. 18, and another showing the No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9.

Another stream will provide the international view, while a Spanish version of the broadcast will have its own stream as well. All of ESPN3's live streams begin at 6 a.m. Sunday's online coverage is scheduled to continue until 1:30 p.m., and will allow viewers to watch the leaders from start to finish. Tiger Woods is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m., while 54-hole leader Lee Westwood will begin his round 10 minutes later at 9:10 a.m.

In addition to the online coverage, ESPN will also provide extensive television and radio coverage. Here is a closer look at all of Sunday's viewing options:

British Open 2013: Tee times and pairings for Sunday's final round

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 09:00 PM PDT

170548212

It's a crowded and star-studded leaderboard heading into the final round of the British Open. As a result, there are a few noteworthy pairings, including the duo of Tiger Woods and Adam Scott.

Woods will open the final round two strokes off the lead as he continues to search for his 15th major title. He had a chance to play in Sunday's final group, but missed a couple of opportunities on the final few holes and will instead be paired with Scott. That, of course, means Woods will be joined on the course by his former caddie Steve Williams.

Williams is now Scott's caddie after 13 years with Woods. Scott and Woods were paired together for the first two rounds of the U.S. Open in June. They will tee off at 9 a.m. ET.

Lee Westwood and Hunter Mahan will tee off 10 minutes after Woods and Scott, playing in the final group of the day. Westwood holds the 54-hole lead at 3-under, while Mahan is tied with Woods for second-place at 1-under. The two are strong contenders for the title of best active player without a major championship, something they will attempt to change on Sunday.

Brandt Snedeker and Sergio Garcia made moves up the leaderboard in the third round and will now be paired together. They will tee off at 8:20 a.m., one group ahead of Phil Mickelson. Mickelson is 2-over through 54 holes, five shots off the lead. He'll play with Francesco Molinari on Sunday.

Muirfield has played harder in the afternoon during the first three rounds, so a player within range of the lead who's able to post a solid score in the morning could be in contention when all is said and done. Jason Day and Dustin Johnson could be among that group, as the two will play together in the final round. Defending British Open champion Ernie Els is eight strokes off the lead. He'll tee off at 7:35 a.m. in a group with Richard Sterne.

Here's a complete look at the final-round tee times (all times Eastern):

Erik Bedard allows no hits, loses

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 08:36 PM PDT

174123101

Houston Astros starting pitcher Erik Bedard lost to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday despite giving up no hits, as the Astros fell 4-2 at Minute Maid Park.

Bedard flashed dominant stuff, as he fanned 10 Mariners over 6 1/3 innings. The southpaw also battled his control; he issued five walks, which helped inflate his pitch count to 109 pitches.

The veteran was charged with three runs, one of them earned. Seattle scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning off Bedard. The lefty issued walks to Michael Saunders and Brad Miller, and both runners advanced into scoring position on a Jason Castro passed ball. Nick Franklin followed with a sacrifice fly, driving in Saunders and advancing Miller to third, while a second passed ball drove in Miller.

Bedard issued a one-out walk to Justin Smoak in the seventh before being removed for Jose Cisnero. Cisnero allowed a two-out walk to Mike Zunino, and Saunders drove in both runners with a double.

The Astros lost the game despite out-hitting the Mariners, 7-1. Houston is the only team since 1916 to allow four runs on one hit, according to ESPN blog You Can't Predict Baseball.

Alex Rios, Robin Ventura disagree about removal from game

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 08:05 PM PDT

20120720_jel_sl8_061

Chicago White Sox outfielder Alex Rios took issue with manager Robin Ventura removing him from the game after not running out a groundball hard on Friday night, according to Alex Ruppenthal of Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

Chicago was tied 2-2 with the Atlanta Braves, and had runners on the corners with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rios grounded out to the shortstop, and did not run out the play hard enough to Ventura's liking, which prompted the removal.

Rios would have preferred if Ventura had discussed the play with him one-on-one, telling Ruppenthal:

"I'm cool with him. He has to do what he has to do, you know, but the situation could've been handled a little better ... If he wants to send a message to myself, it would've gone through better if he put me in his office and talked to me personally, you know. If he wants to make a statement for the team, it probably worked. But I don't know what his intentions were."

Ventura stated that he wanted to send a message to the team, and that failing to run hard on a groundout is the most punishable act a player can commit:

"Guys, they hit ground balls, they can tell kind of how it comes off the bat and you just get frustrated. It's more just kind of losing the thought when your first thought should be running down the line ... That's the one that you can dictate yourself."

The outfielder had an impressive game on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam. Rios is hitting .275/.330/.442 while contributing defensively and on the basepaths. Rios has been the subject of a number of trade rumors, but has indicated that he would like to stay in Chicago.

NBA free agency rumors roundup: Mike Miller's list of suitors grows

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 07:46 PM PDT

20130620_rvr_bm1_653

The free agency period is almost a month old, and although most of the bigger names are off the market, others, including Mo Williams, are still around. Now, a few names have been added to the free agency pool thanks to the amnesty provision. One of the amnesty casualties, Mike Miller, has received a lot of interest from teams despite concerns over a lingering back injury. His list of suitors grew even longer Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers added some depth to their front line and the Dallas Mavericks may not be done adding guards to their roster. Here's a recap of Saturday's free agency signings and rumors.

Nuggets added to list of teams interested in Mike Miller

Since being waived by the Miami Heat under the NBA's amnesty provision, Miller has received interest from almost every Western Conference contender. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Denver Nuggets have entered the fray for Miller's services.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Nuggets are now getting strong consideration from Miller along with the early frontrunners in the race to sign him: Oklahoma City and Memphis.

According to Stein, the Nuggets are offering Miller more minutes than his other suitors, given their lack of wing depth with the departures of Andre Iguodala and Corey Brewer. Stein also notes that Miller is mulling an offer from the Houston Rockets.

Clippers make Byron Mullens signing official

Reports of Mullens heading to Los Angeles began to trickle out earlier this week, but Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski writes that the Clippers and Mullens agreed to a two year, $2 million deal. Mullens is the latest addition to the revamped Clippers bench and will likely be the first big man off that bench. John Raffo at Clips Nation says Mullens fills a need for Los Angeles, even if it's a limited one.

Mullens is an inefficient but effective scorer and not much of a defender. Perhaps significantly he had big games against both the Clippers and Doc Rivers' Boston Celtics. The Clips have obviously looking for a big with some outside offensive game... and they certainly won't lack for bench points this coming season.

Mullens spent last season with the Charlotte Bobcats, averaging a career-high 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season, but shooting only 38.5 percent from the field.

Mavericks nearing deal with Leandro Barbosa, waive Bernard James

The Dallas Mavericks have spent the bulk of their summer revamping their backcourt. So far they've added Jose Calderon, Monta Ellis and Gal Mekel as well as drafted Shane Larkin. It appears they are not done with that overhaul. Citing Terra Brazil, Pro Basketball Talk writes the Mavericks are close to a deal with Leandro Barbosa. Barbosa spent the first half of last season with the Boston Celtics before tearing his ACL in early February. He was then traded to Washington as part of the Jordan Crawford deal. It's unclear how this will affect Devin Harris' deal. Dallas called off a three-year deal with Harris due to a toe injury, but were said to be working on a one-year deal with the point guard.

ESPN's Marc Stein also reports the Mavs will waive Bernard James in order to make room for the Monta Ellis signing. The Mavs reportedly would like to bring James back but it's unclear whether he'll make it through the waiver wire process.

Addison Melone, MVP of Summer League

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 07:45 PM PDT

113_0212

A staple of Summer League is the cheesy halftime entertainment. Sometimes you get dance groups. Often you'll get a goofy little contest involving fans. And occasionally local youth teams will take the floor for a five-minute contest in front of the fans.

It takes something special to catch the eye of a cynical Vegas vet like me who has important fat chewing and valuable tweeting to do during breaks in play. That happened on Saturday during the intermission of the Bobcats vs. D-League Select game in the form of a tiny little star by the name of Addison Melone of Henderson, Nev.

Addi, as her parents Jill and Mark call the humble young guard, took to the court with a squad of varsity high school kids. At first her small size caught my eye. Hey, look at that little blond girl. Isn't she...OH MY! As Addi steals the ball from a much bigger kid and dribbles deftly down the floor for a layup.

Then she scored again.

And again.

The flashy fifth-grader finished with 10 points against girls who were easily twice her size and six to eight years her senior.

We were all in awe watching the display of pure talent, so of course I sprinted down from the media section to get an interview. That's what we do here in Vegas. We talk to young players and introduce them to the world before they arrive on the big stage.

In the case of top-ranked NBA rookies that stage is only a few months away. For Addi, it might take a few more years, but when you see talent like this it's not going out on a limb to think about what comes next.

"Well, I've been playing and I just like the game because it's fun and when I'm bored I just get to play," Addi told me just minutes after her domination on the big court.

Addi's favorite WNBA teams are the Chicago Sky and Phoenix Mercury. Her favorite player is Diana Taurasi (mine too). And while she's keeping her options open, the talented scoring guard seems to be leaning towards DePaul for her college choice. If she keeps on playing like this, she'll have every recruiter in the nation banging down her door with scholarship in hand.

We couldn't get video of her play but this was shot last year at Summer League when Addi would have been 9 years old. Amazing.
